Three tasks structure the research and engineering carried out on the BACCHUS experimental site:

mission scientifiqueThis research system makes possible to produce scientific knowledge on the impact of environmental changes on different components of biodiversity and on the functioning of wine-growing landscapes. It thus makes it possible to analyse how different aspects of global changes, such as changes in land use, changes in agricultural practices and climate change, affect the dynamics of biodiversity and the services it provides in wine-growing landscapes.

Analyse the functioning of the socio-ecosystem of wine production

Well beyond the production of knowledge about the agronomic and ecological functioning of wine-growing landscapes, the research work carried out on the BACCHUS experimental site aims to analyse how the functioning of the wine-growing agroecosystem interacts with social organisations and economic activities at the territorial level. The central idea of this approach is to understand the logic of human organizations within the territory and to analyse how these organizations interact with the biophysical functioning of agricultural systems. This work is carried out at the interface between several disciplines: ecology, agronomy, sociology and economics.

Evaluate and co-design multi-performing wine-growing systems in collaboration with winegrowers

mission op√©rationnelleOn the basis of the knowledge produced on the ecological, agronomic and socio-economic functioning of wine-growing territories, the BACCHUS exeprimental site aims to develop a research-action approach that aims to implement, in a real production situation, innovative agro-ecological solutions that meet current challenges. This agro-ecological engineering approach, carried out in close partnership with the actors of the wine-growing landscapes and in the first place with winegrowers, aims to evaluate and co-design wine-growing production systems that minimize environmental impacts while ensuring efficient economic income for winegrowers. This operational approach will eventually make it possible to work on the robustness and generosity of the solutions implemented. 

All the scientific and operational knowledge produced on the BACCHUS exeprimental site is intended to provide knowledge about the functioning of the socio-ecosystem of wine, to provide agro-ecological engineering solutions to the various stakeholders in wine regions and to inform public policies on spatial planning to reconcile the preservation of biodiversity and wine production.
